The christmas lights are out. It's getting
It must be the end of November.
Touristing
I love being a tourist in London. I've lived in or around it for my entire life, but still feel incredibly lucky to live so close to a city (and landmarks) that people travel around the world to see.
Something I've always wanted to see, but never have, is Tower Bridge open. And lo and behold there I am walking down the South Bank, I'm about to turn to my Mum to say that one thing on my list for life is to see it open...There's a siren. The tourists start scrambling towards the river. And there it is.
The bloody thing has started opening.
It was so bizarre. Everyone seemed to go so quiet to watch the ship come through the gateway, it was wonderful to watch. I made a point not to watch through my lens (hence the wobbly video) and instead to see it with my own two eyes and it was incredible.
Our real reason for being on the river was to see the poppies at the Tower of London before they were removed after Remembrance day. It was amazing to see so many people there to visit and take pictures and the atmosphere was nothing like the sombre air I had imagined.
We also got to have a little wander round the City, which I've never really had a proper venture round, while I was finding my way to Monument. I got to see the infamous 'walkie-talkie' on the way through; famed for its car melting properties. Such a rather major flaw in a building always tickles me.
Hopefully I can't make any muck-ups that bad as a Graphic Designer. The worst my work can probably do is give someone a paper cut. Not melting someone's Jag.
Hallowe'en
(This is being included since most of our festivities occurred after midnight on the 31st, so it technically happened in November.)
Wonderful, wonderful Hallowe'en! It's one of my favourite celebrations, along with Bonfire Night, which rolls around a few days later. Spooky things, fancy dress and an abundance of chocolate;what's not to love? (Besides the occasional vandal but let's not get into that).
2014 marked my second Hallowe'en at uni, and although we didn't make it out for quite so many themed nights out as we did last year, we made the most out of a single night and explored a bar which we'd never been to before. (Anyone in the Reading area, take a look at Wild Lime, it's rather nice in there!)
Etc.
After many, many attempts me and my housemates are now able to name all 197 countries of the world. It was a long ordeal with a lot of screaming at one another, but we've finally succeeded. Happy day!
The Month in...
TV & Film
Community
Apart from Friends and Scrubs I've never really re-watched a TV series. However how that the season 2 finale of Orange is the New Black has left a gaping hole in my life ('how am I supposed to procrastinate now?!') I've returned to Community.
I'd never heard of it til last year when my housemate told me about it and so I thought I'd give it a go and what do you know, it's a great series! I absolutely love the often subtle near the mark humour as well as the self-awareness of many of the characters (especially the wonderful Abed), which all fit together to make a brilliantly funny TV programme. Well recommended.
Mockingjay
Holy Christ that film was good!!
Okay so the first two were good but I thought I was over the whole dystopic teen fiction thing but I was very, very wrong. I was on edge through the entirety of the film, which had a much darker feel than the others - y'know, apart from teenagers fighting one another to the death for sport.
Books
Sadly, as it always does during term-time, my reading has been severely neglected. I have, however, been reading Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit for the Penguin Design Award.
December in preview:
Europe trip
My University has organised a tour of european Christmas markets, stopping in three cities: Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels. I've been wanting to travel and especially to explore Europe more for ages so I'm unbelievably excited, especially since it coincides with...
My 21st birthday
This month marks 21 years since the mothership let me loose on the planet. I don't really see 21 as that big a deal, especially not compared to starting a new decade like with 20 and 30, but I'm pretty excited for it anyways because, yay! cake and family!
